Maintenance Free Yard

Because they enjoy travel, these Ballwin, Missouri residents wanted a low maintenance yard without grass to cut. They had woods behind their house and thought they would enjoy an alternate space created between the backdoor and the natural area.

Existing Structures Needed Removal

Rear garage doors were moved to the front to face the street. Both the existing driveway and deck needed to be removed, which seems overwhelming!

No More Mowing!

They asked us to reshape their yard with a patio and golf green, and then add fresh plantings.

New Space for Leisure

Removal of the existing driveway generated green space, and removal of the aged deck allowed room for the new patio.

Artificial Turf

A 10 foot grade change required Poynter Landscape Architecture to build retaining walls and re-grade the yard. Four feet lower than the sandstone flagstone patio, the golf green and chipping area were designed of artificial turf.

Stone Hardscapes

Natural sandstone stone steps lead through mulched beds from the patio to the green. Wood composite steps were built from the patio into the house. The plantings strategically chosen for installation added privacy and year round curiosity.

No More Mowing

Artificial turf’s evolution has turned it into a viable alternative for small yards. Today’s selections look so convincing that people cannot tell the difference from real grass. Unwind after work and practice your approach on your personal golf green. Genuine in appearance, artificial turf shortens from chipping area to putting green. It looks grassy green all the time, never needs mowing, and will not fall prey to turf grass insects or diseases. Give yourself an edge over your regular foursome at Ballwin Golf Course!

Enjoy and Relax

Simply gorgeous, the large sandstone slab steps look as if they have lived in this yard for hundreds of years. They blend unnoticeably well th the organic patio flagstone and strong retaining wall block, but contrast pleasantly with the bark mulch and colorful plants.

Space for outdoor dining, entertaining, and relaxing has taken on a whole new look here. The confinements of the old deck are forgotten on the welcoming and open surface of the patio. Keep your putter and wedge handy!
