FAQs

Enhance your Outdoor Living Space

How much should I spend?

Some experts suggest spending between 15%-20% of the home’s value on landscaping – an investment that brings both value and long-term satisfaction to your life. If you’re unsure, you can always schedule a consultation with one of our landscape architects to get a better idea of what it will take to see your vision become a reality.

How do I decide what I want?

Our team of highly-educated and experienced design professionals will work with you to develop a landscape befitting you and your tastes, down to the finest detail. You can get started by filling out our landscape wish list. It might be helpful to browse magazines for ideas that appeal to you and drive around your neighborhood and take photos of yards you like. Let your inspiration be the starting point for Poynter to construct a stunning outdoor living space that perfectly matches your lifestyle.

I’m not sure what I want, do you have any examples I can look through?

Please check out our Gallery page. When we meet for your consultation, we will provide additional examples of our extensive body of work.

What about drainage and grading for my property?

We are well-versed and knowledgeable at planning and engineering designs that will solve any drainage and grading problems that may exist on your site. This includes proactively calculating water runoff from hard surfaces and turf – all before a shovel even touches the ground.

Do I need permits and/or approval from my homeowners’ association to landscape?

Yes, in most cases. You, however, likely don’t need to do anything. Our construction management team is well-versed in the multitude of all of the local municipalities’ different requirements. You also won’t need to worry if you sell your home because all of the necessary regulations and permits will be followed appropriately.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, Poynter is fully licensed and insured.

What about my buried TV or internet cables and utilities?

We handle all of that seamlessly for you before we start.

How do you landscape in an environmentally correct manner?

Our landscape architects and designers take into consideration the type of soil, sun, shade, views and water usage on each property.

What is a plot plan? Where do I find it? Do I need to measure?

A plot plan is a diagram of your lot and how your house and other structures sit on it. You probably received one when you closed on your house, or you can get one from your city or county offices. Our team can also create a plot plan and perform any necessary measuring.

Can I do a project in phases?

Definitely. We are happy to develop a plan that you can do in phases in order to suit your needs. We strive for a pleasant, stress-free process for you.

How do I know what materials to use?

We will work with you to thoughtfully select materials that are aesthetically pleasing and chosen specifically for your unique landscape in order to achieve the look you have in mind.

Who does the work?

Our professionally trained in-house staff performs the majority of our work. When needed, we will bring in specific licensed and insured trade skill partners such as electricians or plumbers.

How do I take care of my new plants?

We will provide documentation on plant care, watering and maintenance guidelines and even a sprinkler system schedule in simple, easy-to-understand language.

Once we agree to move forward with you, how do you communicate during the construction process?

We have a very organized and transparent construction management process. We provide a package of information along with common questions/answers about the install process so you know what is happening, when it is happening, who to communicate with and more. We make residential home remodeling pleasant and as unobtrusive as possible.

Is this a good investment for my home?

Good property investment for outdoor projects starts with a well-designed outdoor space.
